Installation of a Workstation

In this document the new web-based installation and update of a standalone workstation is described. It is targeted at users, who have local administration rights and thus are able to manage the installation without the help of a network administrator. The document is valid for installations with or without a license server.

Initial Installation of Software and Licenses

Step 1: Download of the packages

The Cubus software and the licenses are always installed locally on the PC. In order to start the installation you must open the web-based Cubus Installer:

https://install.cubus.ch

In order to sign in to the Cubus Installer, you need the customer number ‘BN’ and the corresponding ‘InstallKey’, which you have received by email from Cubus (delivery note). After the login please follow the instructions for the installation of the software and the licenses.

Download the three packages (2 msi packages and 1 licence file) as shown below.

Package name Installation
CubusServices_xxx.msi - Service «CubusSvc»
- CubusExplorer with an entry «Cubus Software» in the start menu
CubusSoftware_xxx_x.msi - all Cubus application programmes
CubusLicense_BN_xxxx.CubLic - all licences corresponding to the «BN» are loaded

Step 2: Installing the software

Install the packages in exactly the same order as shown above. The two msi packages («CubusServices_xxx.msi» and «CubusSoftware_xxx_x.msi») each have their own entry in «Apps and Features» in Windows.

Step 3: Installing the licences

The licences are installed by opening the «*.CubLic» file with a double-click. After installation, CubusExplorer is registered as the standard programme for opening the «*.CubLic» files in Windwos. This may take some time. If necessary, restart the PC before loading the licences.

ATTENTION: The licences are saved per user. If several different users can log on to a PC, the licence must be loaded for each user.

Step 4: Installing the drivers for the protection key

After a successfull initial installation you have to install the drivers for the software protection: Make sure the included USB dongle (Hardlock) is not connected to the PC and install the drivers with CubusExplorer («Main menu» > «Settings» > «Licences & Updates» > «Sentinel and Hardlock», [Install] button). Once the driver has been successfully installed, you can plug in the USB protection key, after which a red light should light up on the protection key.

Update of Software and Licenses

The following procedure can only be used if the web-based installation has already been carried out as described above.

Whenever a new release of the Cubus Software is ready to download, the CubusExplorer is showing a notification message.

Automatic updates of applications and licences are carried out from CubusExplorer in the background while the Cubus applications are running *. The user must have the appropriate rights and the installation must be authorised by the user. Only «http» access is required. These updates can also be installed «manually» in the same way as the initial installation.

* ATTENTION: If the update also includes a new „Cubus Services” package (very rarely the case), the applications must not be used during the update. Otherwise there is a risk of data loss.

After an update, it is always possible to roll back to the previous installation via «Programmes and Features» in Windows.

In some environments (e.g. virtual servers) it could be useful to hide this message. How to set this correctly, read here.

Special user settings

The configuration of the user interface (e.g. size of windows, colors, path of recently used projects) is stored in the user profile of windows and therefore not part of the installation.

The settings for the print output (e.g. page layout of CubusViewer) and all relevant material settings for the calculations (e.g. material classes) are defined in configuration files and installed with the software. If you want to overwrite the default configuration, you can save your own files in the following configuration directory:

ProgramFiles(x86)\Cubus Software\Config

If a configuration file with the same name exists in the configuration directory, then this is read in. Here are a few examples of configuration files:

Setting File name Path from configuration directory
Page layout of CubusViewer
(report printout)
*.TJL \CubusShared\cViewer
Format for layouts *.LAY \Name of program\LAY\*
Material classes NormID.PAR \CubusShared\Codes\Materials8 (Gen. 8)
or
\CubusShared\Codes\Materials9 (Gen. 9)
Default materials Default_NormID.LST \CubusShared\Codes\Bstf8 (Gen. 8)
or
\CubusShared\Codes\Bstf9 (Gen. 9)
