AVENA

Steel Members

AVENA is a program to analyze the structural safety of individual members made of steel according to the Swiss structural code SIA263 and the Eurocode EN 1993-1-1. It is intended as an aid to the manual calculation of the time-consuming structural resistance and stability verifications, whereby for a series of loadings either the most suitable steel profile is determined and/or the degree of utilization of the strength of the selected steel profiles is output.

General

  • Interactive use: All input is made in one single dialog shown on the right hand side
  • Batch-processing: Calculations can be made as a follow up from STATIK
  • Additional help: For typical frame situations the buckling length can be estimated in an further sub-dialog.
Main dialog

Profile Library and Welded Sections

  • The section properties of the most common rolled profiles are stored in a library.
  • Welded sections are defined through parametrized cross-sections
Sub-dialog for the estimation of the buckling length

Check and Design

  • Profile classification based on the slendernesses and determination of the permissible method of analysis
  • Output of the critical buckling lengths
  • Investigation of local instabilities and, if necessary, analysis of the reduced dimensioning section
  • Axial buckling
  • Stability and cross section resistance of doubly symmetric steel profiles for general bending and normal force
  • Verification of simple bending with normal force for other rolled steel sections
  • Bending and shear resistance of plate girders
Input of welded section

Resultats

  • Degree of utilization (Cross section resistance and stability)
  • Tables with overview and detailed results (All intermediate results together with a reference to the governing formulas are also available)
